Great news! I have lost 8 pounds this month! Yippee! I think all the walking is making a big difference.
Here is a recap of the lifestyle changes I have made so far:
1. Take 10,000 steps per day
2. Sleep 7-8 hours per night
3. Eat the same breakfast everyday
4. Follow the Weight Watchers eating plan
5. Floss every day
Lifestyle changes I will make this week:
Dr. Oz reccomends you find ways to excercise outside of your regular excerise plan. For example you should park in the spot furthest from the store and walk those extra steps. This translates for me into going up the stairs in my house to put things away rather than putting the kids' things into a basket to bring up all at once. This additional activity could really add to my steps as my kids have lots of stuff!!
The truth and reality of it all:
I have done well this past month overall but I do find it difficult to keep up with all the changes everyday. I may do great on 2 or 3 changes and then fall off the wagon on some others. I think I would do better if we didn't have weekends!
What I know for sure:
I do not want to wait until my kids are grown and gone to pay attention to myself and my needs. I am more than just a care taker of others. There is no reason why my time can't be right now. :)

Week 1 summary
I have been following Dr. Oz's healthy living plan for the past week. Taking 10.000 steps per day is going well. Sleeping 7-8 hours per night is also manageable. I also have been eating the same breakfast everyday.
I do feel better and more energized so far.
Now onto the tricky food part. I have been reading pages and pages of Dr. Oz' recommended foods and recipes. I have even printed off 5 days of recipes and shopped for and prepared these meals. The problem with this food plan is that there are vague guidelines. After counting calories and monitoring portion sizes I have realized that Weight Watchers is much more user friendly than the Dr. Oz plan. So I am making the executive decision (because I can :) ) to incorporate Weight Watchers into my 365 of Oz year. Weight Watchers is one of Dr. Oz's sponsors so he must not totally disagree with their program.
WW is a much more realistic way to control my caloric intake and prepare meals that the rest of my family will actually eat!
Looking Ahead: This week I will continue to:
1. Take 10,000 steps per day
2. Sleep 7-8 hours per night
3. Eat the same breakfast everyday
4. Follow the Weight Watchers eating plan
5. Floss every day (this may be the hardest one!)
Hope you are following along with me!

Moving right along
So as much as I love Dr. Oz and his revealing information about healthy living, I have been very disappointed with his website and their response time.
On Monday, January 3rd, Dr. Oz began an 11 week health and fitness challenge. I was so excited because this was right in line with the health plan I was ready to undertake. I registered online and then waited for my login information to be sent. I waited and waited and waited some more. I did finally receive the first level of login information but then the site would not acknowledge my login after a day. I have given up on this 11 week challenge and I am going back to my original plan of following the good advice Dr. Oz disseminates on his website and on his show.
So far I am doing 3 things daily:
Eating 1 meal the same every day. For me that is breakfast
Walking 10,000 steps a day.
Sleeping 7-8 hours per night.
My plan is to add fitness goals and dietary changes slowly each week. What I like about Dr. Oz is that he also addresses spiritual, emotional and relationship health as well. My hubby has already enjoyed some of the benefits of his advice! :)

What?
So I am still waiting for my access code to the Dr. Oz 11 week health challenge webpage. I did recieve an e-mail telling me that my access code was on it's way. I was not able to participate in the Nike 2011 shoe give away either. What is going on? Is it possible that everyone in America has the same ambition as me and the web site is overloaded? Is Dr. Oz the new Oprah of health?
In the meantime what I have done is this:
1. Created one meal that is the same each day. For me this is breakfast. I have one packet of oatmeal wih 1 teaspoon of peanut butter.
2. I walk 10,000 steps each day - this is not nearly as hard as it sounds.
3. I sleep 7-8 hours each night. This has been my favorite part.
Stay tuned...access will surely be granted soon!

Hold the Phone!
So I am geared up to begin the year following Dr. Oz's healthful advice but then today he releases a brand new 11 week program which is designed to get you to shape up in 2011.
I think this is worth checking out!
I have filled out my information on his website and I am waiting (not so patiently) for my login to be verified..etc so I can "learn more".
I also found out that Nike is teaming up with him and giving away 2011 pairs of shoes! You can register for them tomorrow, January 4th at 3pm. Click here http://www.sharecare.com/static/nike-coming-soon to enter.

Gearin' Up
As I was looking at the shopping list and gathering recipes on the Dr. Oz website, I came across some interesting information. Your waist should equal half your height in inches. I am 61 inches so my waist should be 30.5. Hmm..interesting. Does this measure up for you?
